Ampersand and Zolan Quobble: Ampersand history. Formed in 2001 in South London, Ampersand a quartet, can trace their early influences back to This Heat, Faust, Throbbing Gristle and Karlheinz Stockhausen. Equally important were experimemtal bands from the eighties Test Dept, Einsturzende Neubauten, SPK and Zoviet France. Ampesand meld a collection of sounds creating sonic soundscapes that are immersive and subsuming. Featured noises come from pianos carcasses, fractured keyboards, shell casings, corrugated iron, acoustic metal sculptures, scaffold and brass pipes. The improvised and random noise, creates multifaceted timbral music. This year (2011) Ampersand have played in Germany (Dortmund and Oberhausen) and The Substation Project Space in Margate where this excerpt with Zolan Quobble was recorded

Bob Ostertag, Otomo Yoshihide and Justin Bond: Composer, performer, historian, instrument builder, journalist, activist, kayak instructor, Bob Ostertag's work cannot easily be summarized or pigeon-holed. He has published 21 CDs of music, two movies, two DVDs, and three books. His writings on contemporary politics have been published on every continent and in many languages. Electronic instruments of his own design are at the cutting edge of both music and video performance technology. He has performed at music, film, and multi-media festivals around the globe. His radically diverse collaborators include the Kronos Quartet, avantgarder John Zorn, heavy metal star Mike Patton, jazz great Anthony Braxton, dyke punk rocker Lynn Breedlove, drag diva Justin Bond, Quebecois film maker Pierre Hébert, and others. He is rumored to have connections to the shadowy media guerrilla group The Yes Men. In March 2006 Ostertag made all of his recordings to which he owns the rights available as free digital downloads under a Creative Commons license. He is currently Professor of Technocultural Studies and Music at the University of California at Davis. Otomo Yoshihide first came to international prominence in the 1990s as the leader of the noise rock group, Ground Zero, and has since worked in a variety of contexts, ranging from free improvisation to noise, jazz, avant-garde and contemporary classical. He is also a pioneering figure in the EAI-scene, and is featured on important records on labels like Erstwhile Records. He plays guitar, turntables, and electronics. Justin Vivian Bond (born May 9, 1963) is an American singer-songwriter, performance artist, occasional actor and Radical Faerie. Described as a "fixture of the New York avant-garde", Bond arose to notability playing the role of Kiki DuRayne in the drag cabaret act Kiki and Herb from the early 1990s through to 2004. Born physically male, Bond is transgender and eschews gender-specific honorifics and pronouns, preferring "Mx." and "V" respectively. Born in Hagerstown, Maryland, Bond went on to study theater at Adelphi University before moving to San Francisco after graduating in 1985. It was here that v met Kenny Mellman, and they began a cabaret act together, which would eventually lead to them creating the characters of Kiki and Herb. Bond designed Kiki to be an elderly alcoholic woman who would perform covers of pre-existing songs in her own distinct style. Bond decided to bring an end to the Kiki character in 2004, subsequently embarking on a solo career, and starring in John Cameron Mitchell's film Shortbus (2006) as vself before releasing vs first album, Dendrophile (2011). Bond self describes vs voice as being "kind of woody and full with a lot of vibration". For vs musical work, Bond has received numerous accolades including the Obie Award (2001), Bessie Award (2004), and Ethyl Eichelberger Award (2007). Bond was also nominated for a Tony Award in 2007. Bond's memoir, Tango: My Childhood Backwards and in High Heels, is slated for publication by The Feminist Press in September 2011

Bolide: Bolide is an electro-acoustic improvising sextet, formed in Brighton, UK, in 2007. Originally coming together for a one-off performance at the Colour Out of Space festival that year, the group has so far failed to disband

Bonnie MacAllister: Hop and Scotch Cast a dress off, Slide to the side Tip toe over twelve, Reveal yourself in pigtails, Limit rules for doubling. Bonnie MacAllister featuring Ruth Schanbacher: Hop and Scotch by Bonnie MacAllister featuring Ruth Schanbacher. The video responds to the archetype of a ragdoll, abused and trafficked.  Through interplay of a children's game and a childish song, the narrator reveals that this doll resists and refuses to play.  Editing, stills, synth organ and vocals by Bonnie MacAllister.  Starring Ruth Schanbacher

Bryan Lewis Saunders: Casey Anthony vs. Fukushima: Our priorities are all screwed up

Cagey House and Wolfseule: and on those nights, more often than you would suppose, heavy clouds would roll over the far districts of the country, and the earth, from deep in its rock heart would reach up and pull, and the water would fall, and run and gather. Vocal interpretation, wit, and clarity by Wolfseule. Text and musical gestures by Cagey House

Captain Comedown: Time is running out... all books and photographs will eventually be burnt for fuel. Does this explain the constant self documentation? Why so inclined to immortalise all environments, situations? This ritual obsession, consummation. Validity is dead and we are bloated; accept and disseminate so much each day, never fully digesting. As our relationship becomes more familiar, how will our understanding and reaction change? Now that we interface so seamlessly, will we contract its viruses? And what an awful truth it is emerged from a storm… the underscore to nine dark months spent treading black waters; our destitute captain, certain only of impending doom and the death of all creation. These haunting soundscapes are scorched onto walls of inner imprisonment but a glimmer of hope resound here within. You will find the recordings and more information at captaincomedown.com

Caroline Ono: Who are these people and what do they want?

Collectif sin: Flavien Berger, Erwan Evin, Quentin Caille and Paul Boudeau

Daniel Spicer: Writer. Improviser

Donovan.Montag.Pearson: There was a version It went something like this There were Three of us Me and you and you On a ship of fools I think it was called the Belgrano We were little triplets I was the only soprano (She said she was the soprano) Noah said it was his ark We thought he was a know it all He said we had to go in two by two And when we saw the sharks We all laughed our heads off All three of us It turned into a free for all

Gurdonark: Loss makes forlorn spaces wider and narrower. software synthesizer: sawcutter 2, sample sequenced: an ocarina

Igor's Roomy Lab Coat: Jeremiah had suffered the ravages and bitter blessings of melancholic consumption for lo these many years and yet this latest incident of his beguiling malaise was of consequence especial and weighty. In a pique of the black manic, so regular an attendant in the very early morning, he burned bridges and steeling himself drank of a concoction self prepared. With remarakble efficacy his symptoms of emotional estrangement and isolation were banished. His horror upon discovering a frank and total lack of discomfort in relation to his fellows was great; the psyche he still recalled was no longer available to him, denied the bitter rewards of wistful melancholia with it's topical systems of vapours and ague, he set forth from the family estate, to tend, for his remaining days, the inmates of a shelter and retreat for emotionally distressed and disadvantaged trumpets, harmoniums and sundry items of brass

Jaap Blonk: Jaap Blonk (born 1953 in Woerden, Holland) is a self-taught composer, performer and poet. He went to university for mathematics and musicology but did not finish those studies. In the late 1970s he took up saxophone and started to compose music. A few years later he discovered his potential as a vocal performer, at first in reciting poetry and later on in improvisations and his own compositions. For almost two decades the voice was his main means for the discovery and development of new sounds. From around the year 2000 on Blonk started work with electronics, at first using samples of his own voice, then extending the field to include pure sound synthesis as well. He took a year off of performing in 2006. As a result, his renewed interest in mathematics made him start a research of the possibilities of algorithmic composition for the creation of music, visual animation and poetry. As a vocalist, Jaap Blonk is unique for his powerful stage presence and almost childlike freedom in improvisation, combined with a keen grasp of structure. He performed in many European countries, as well as in the U.S. and Canada, Indonesia, Japan, South Africa and Latin America. With the use of live electronics the scope and range of his concerts has acquired a considerable extension. Besides working as a soloist, he collaborated with many musicians and ensembles in the field of contemporary and improvised music, like Maja Ratkje, Mats Gustafsson, Nicolas Collins, Joan La Barbara, The Ex, the Netherlands Wind Ensemble and the Ebony Band. He premiered several compositions by the German composer Carola Bauckholt, including a piece for voice and orchestra. A solo voice piece was commissioned by the Donaueschinger Musiktage 2002. On several occasions he collaborated with visual computer artist Golan Levin. Blonk's work for radio and television includes several commissioned radio plays. He also makes larger-scale drawings of his scores, which are being exhibited. He was the founder and leader of the long-standing bands Splinks (modern jazz, 1983-1999) and BRAAXTAAL (avant-rock, 1987-2005). He also has his own record label, Kontrans, featuring a total of 15 releases so far. Other Blonk recordings appeared on Staalplaat, Basta and VICTO

Jim Tuite, Patrick Morris and Kevin MacLeod: Jim Tuite has been using photography since 1983. He uses a degenerative approach to video as a foil to mass media and the internet. Visual elements are reduced to iconic value and reassigned to mythological overlays or simulacra strategies. He is a graduate of Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia and School of Visual Arts in New York City. He currently resides in New Jersey, USA. Patrick Morris has studied painting at Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. He is the father of a 17 year-old unschooler and has a keen interest in education and psychoanalysis. "I enjoy smearing myself  in art-related objects and have for over half a century; which is no more nor less than I deserve." Kevin MacLeod is a professional composer who creates royalty-free music that can be found on his site, incompetech.com. His music has been featured on the Internet, radio, and television programs; and in films, theater performances, commercials, and industrial programs. MacLeod believes that the current copyright legal regime denies people the freedom to express themselves creatively. The vast majority of MacLeod's work falls within the creative commons license, which permits anyone to use the work however they wish as long as they credit him to the work. Kevin encourages people who use his music to give him a donation. He splits his time between New York City and Green Bay, Wisconsin

La Main Traumatique: De jour en jour le besoin s'impose d'avantage. Il ne se prête plus guère à une considération détachée. Murmurists: a soft end, or an embrace? a just violence, or forever via fantasy? this is propaganda, but hyper-real, without transgression, sensible only to a brand of dishonour, lethal in its justifications of its own debatable success. the possession of babylon, if it is even that, merely sequences an angry parade of meaningless symbols, with aspiration as a means in and of itself. around this sickbed is assembled the frames of an insurrection. no-one must ever move, understand? / made by anthony donovan, cafe abdab, city of dis, falkland islands, 2011

All electronics and effects by Ronny Wærnes. A tribute to the peace and love of my friends in UK and London, and especially to those who housed me in Albion Road in June 2010. We will not lack the will to love. We must take the streets back. Democracy will win the cowardice of the violent will lose to the brave heroes of the roses

Ross Ackermann: Take the boat up the mangrove inlet to the Rangaunu Harbour, New Zealand. Tranquillity shattered by the scream of an outboard motor can not erase the serenity of this location. A place where time stands still, reflecting on what was, and what will be. Feeling like a cork bobbing perilously on the alive, ever powerful, ocean. The source of life, itself. Unwinding and understanding my small presence in this universe / I am an artist/musician living in Northland, New Zealand. Art and music have been a life long fascination in which I indulge actively and passively. Interaction with others in these endeavours has been a recent development; one of which, has brought me abundant pleasure

Ruela Pinho and AkaMan: Riding a multitude of emotion toes digging into the crumbling edge balance falters inducing a leap of faith towards the other side half a world away to be caught by a like mind within a moment breaking barriers of language and difference through art. Ross Ackerman

Sound Inhaler: I hate fast cars 2 / I live in Birmingham, once Britain’s own motor town. I’ve always hated cars and particularly car culture and boy racers. Every day they piss me off one way or another, when I heard the songs quoted below I’ve always said ‘’I hate fast cars too’’ I don’t drive but I am a passenger. "What a show, there they go smokin' up the sky, yeah Crazy horses all got riders and they're you and I" - The Osmonds / "They're so depressing going 'round and 'round Ooh, they make me dizzy, oh fast cars they run me down Sooner or later, you're gonna listen to Ralph Nader I don't wanna cause a fuss, but fast cars are so dangerous" - The Buzzcocks soundinhaler@yahoo.co.uk

Spidey Agutter: Omlette, Eggs & C. is a short-film made by David Cunliffe and Anthony Donovan / He went out. Fer t'paper (uuurgh heeaye) Bur he never come ome. I (slap) it'd cum n help (slap) (slap....slap ) in times of ......er .......trouble an strife like (WAKE UP!) Fer anyone......anyone at all (slap slap.....slap slap) (ghhhhhhhhahhhhhhhhey!). The trip to the local newsy. For my copy of two thousand ad and assorted good time sweeties. A caramac maybe or a nutty bar for instance. Walking back later was always the best part, anticipating the read excitement at its sweetest. Getting back and preparing everything. A drink of lemmo maybe, taking everything. Upstairs. Where you could read it alone, get right into it. Aware of the way it would pass so quickly. Wanting to make it more. All these ideas and sensations, these innocent sounding. Presentations. In my mind now. Not exactly tainted but carrying the sheen of addiction upon. Ritual. Habit. Isolation. Delayed gratification, intensification. A transcending joy. A longing for what has gone. Leaving and losing the everyday for a little while. I believe this to be untrue but i resent my mind its implication and suggestion. What i feel to be its. Misrepresentation. A kid with imagination, enjoying a fleeting hour or so of a special happiness. Thats fucking precious, its not fucking penance. Believe as you may. Life has more up its cavernous sleeve, to stick you with. But still this twist it hurts. Leaking seldom over the years but leaking now. Feeling guilty cause its just for me after all. Not for the folks that deserve all this. More importantly for the people i miss. Take the time to smell the roses. The fragrance it cant be bought later. Gone. Missing now. Remembered imperfectly. Wished for fervently. Live right now and project the how. The fear of dark and lonely water. Protect and survive. Do not build the dread. Make the bed, fit to sleep in. For fucks sake, fit to dream in

Stormhat: Stormhat is the moniker of the dane Peter Bach Nicolaisen, visual artist and composer. So far he has released seven cd's and some works digitally on different labels. His sounds are taken from mostly slightly processed and filtered fieldrecordings with added primitive instrument-sounds. He wants the listener to feel immersed in his sounds which from time to time can be rather noisy and disharmonious. His work could maybe be categorized as electro-acoustic, psychedelic dark newage. He is interested in space, texture and tactility in sound and see his sound as a drug. Not always pleasant but sometimes worthwhile the effort. contactinfo www.stormhat.dk

Zilmrah: Various sounds lay dormant, fixed and slowly descending through a repressed contemplative silence into a filtered hue of hyper extended mixed and routed signals, of degenerative decaying reverb cycles shimmering through stained glass prisms of refracting audible hallucinations. Restrained nihilism permeates a dense cloud of irony. This peculiar catalyst can be used to spark inner focus where necessary since all external sources disrupt the natural order of its real meaning and subjugate the harmony that holds balance between an implosion of mans heavily guarded heart or an explosion in his porous and infiltrated mind. There will be bliss as he crosses either threshold, even if its just a momentary release from what weighs in his thoughts

Zreen Toyz: Liking pushing aside the notion of composer or musician, the French artist Zreen Toyz (born in 1954) often presents himself as Sound Sculptor or Sound Poet. After few years in classic training on piano and percussions, he does not appreciate the stifling conformity of the academy and turns to the improvised musics. The continuation of its training is essentially self-taught. He crosses composers as Luc Ferrari and Ilhan Mimaroglu, but his meetings with Herman Poole Blount, more known under the name of Sun Ra, and the improvised electronic musics, in particular that of Tangerine Dream (period 1970-1975) and that of Conrad Schnitzler (he meets him in Berlin in 1973), are really determining for his sound experiments. Since his first pieces created in 1970, he works the sound material following inspiration of the moment, a raw and instinctive approach by stratification where any imperfection or sound incident become a harshness on which to hang on atmospheres or reflections. In this way, he creates impalpable and timeless landscapes where vibrations, noises, and collages erase the structure of the piece. http://soundcloud.com/zreentoyz
